Ready to start planning your dream photoshoot in Italy?
September is without a doubt my favorite month for photos. And when an elopement comes along, I am so happy! A September elopement in Venice means soft golden light, water reflections, incredible architecture (as always in Venice) and the magical silence of an early morning.
Abby and Jacob, a young couple from Texas with a deep love for simplicity, elegance, and a touch of playfulness, planned a Venetian morning with ease and some personal touches.

Editorial Meets Organic: A Morning to Remember
From the moment Abby and Jacob reached out, I knew this was going to be special. “We’re looking for more of an editorial feel with this photoshoot,” they told me, “but we’re both a bit awkward in front of the camera.” Their note was filled with warmth and charm—talk of a shared love for houseplants, sneakers, sweets. The blend of elegance and down-to-earth joy they described was exactly the kind of energy I love to capture.
Inspired by my past shoots on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Abby had fallen for the architecture and mood of Venice’s quieter corners. We decided to meet at sunrise in Piazza San Marco, when the city still holds its breath and the light is soft and golden.

The Sweetest Details of this Elopement in Venice
Two looks for the husband – moustache yes or no?
Abby wore a flowing white dress in a boho-chic style—effortlessly elegant, with a flower basket that felt like an extension of her own energy. Jacob, relaxed and stylish in his sneakers, had been growing a mustache for months… until Abby asked if we could photograph both looks. So we did—starting the session with the mustache, and then capturing a second look post-shave for a fun and stylish before-and-after.

The memory of how it all began
As the city slowly woke up, we wandered from Piazza San Marco to the Giardini Reali, where nature framed them just right—soft greens and marble blending into a living editorial spread. One of my favorite parts of the morning? When they pulled out an old photo—taken in the very early days of their relationship, years ago. We paused to take a photo of them holding that picture in the soft Venetian light. A quiet but powerful reminder of how far they’ve come, and how beautifully their story continues to unfold.

A coffee at Cafè Florian- the oldest café in the world
Laughing, sun-kissed, and full of that quiet joy that comes from shared history and sincere love, Abby and Jacob didn’t just want beautiful images—they wanted honest ones. Photos that felt like them.
We ended even played with a few candid shots of them sharing sweets and coffee—because what’s a morning in Italy without espresso and a sugar fix?

Why September in Venice is Perfect for an Elopement
There’s something truly magical about Venice in September. The summer crowds begin to thin, yet the city is still alive with light, color, and warmth. The days are long but not oppressively hot, and the early mornings—like the one we shared with Abby and Jacob—are quiet, golden, and filled with that unmistakable Venetian hush.
Cultural events like the Venice Film Festival bring a buzz of elegance to the city, while the soft, diffused light makes every piazza and canal glow. Gondolas glide silently through still waters, espresso bars start to hum with life, and there’s just enough breeze to make a flowy dress dance. It’s a time when Venice feels both cinematic and completely yours—perfect for couples seeking intimacy, romance, and timeless beauty for their elopement.
