This iconic and unique city, rich in history and charm, offers a myriad of breathtaking wedding venues that cater to every couple’s dream.
From opulent palaces adorned with stunning frescoes to intimate gardens overlooking serene waterways, Venice provides a unique backdrop for your nuptials. Each location tells a story, steeped in culture and timeless beauty. Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or a quaint elopement, the city’s unique atmosphere will make your wedding unforgettable.
I will guide you though the process of choosing a wedding venue in Venice, listing the best options. All of these options will fit both intimate events and big weddings. But first of all, let’s why Venice is a great option for a destination wedding in Italy.
Why Venice – is Venice the best option for your wedding in Italy?
Venetian architecture and history create a magical backdrop for a wedding ceremony
Venice, often referred to as La Serenissima, is a city that exudes charm and elegance because of its history and unique architecture. The city, built on over 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, is renowned for its labyrinth of canals, historic buildings, and hundreds of bridges. The architecture of Venice is a blend of Gothic, Byzantine, and Renaissance styles.
Venetian palaces and mansions overlooking the Grand Canal, in Italian palazzi, were built by wealthy Venetian families and feature intricate facades, majestic interiors, stunning waterfront views. The grandeur of these palaces provides a fairy-tale backdrop for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Each palace tells its own story, steeped in history and culture.
Venice is the city of art and artists, perfect for creative couples
Venice has always been in the heart of artists, writers and celebrities. From Peggy Guggenheim who established in Venice her Contemporary Art Collection, to Igor Stravinsky and Thomas Mann.
But this is not just about the past. Fashion forward artists swarm to the city every year for the Biennale vernissage parties. And actors and directors gather at the end of the Summer for the Venice Film Festival. The city is definitely the place to explore if you love art, cinema and history.
The food in Venice, just like anywhere in Italy, is incredible and perfect for a wedding celebration
Then think of the food. When it comes to cuisine Venice offers eight Michelin starred restaurants and an incredible amount of great traditional restaurants as well, ready for you to explore, all over the city. You have the traditional Spritz, the cicchetti, the fish specialties from the Mediterranean and the Venetian lagoon, the amazing prosecco and all of the regional wines that are world known.
There are religious venues of all kinds in Venice for couples from all over the world
The city also has a variety of synagogues, Catholic, Anglican, Armenian churches and religious venues for all different faiths. You can also get married at Palazzo Cavalli, the city’s town hall, with a magical view over the Rialto bridge. Whether you are planning a religious, civil or symbolic wedding, some venues can also host a ceremony.

How to choose the best wedding venue in Venice
One cannot simply list the best wedding venues in Venice, because the best venue really depends on you as a couple and the kind of celebration you have in mind.
Venice is somehow easy to enjoy, democratic and inclusive but also extremely exclusive, if you want privacy and the perfect luxurious destination wedding. You can get married and have a walk in Piazza San Marco, but you can also avoid all public spaces and move on the water in total privacy, as celebrities usually do.
What elements you should consider when picking a wedding venue for a destination wedding
As a wedding photographer I have photographed and visited most wedding venues in Venice and I am here to share my selection.
The curation is based on the different kind of wedding you might be planning. There are different factors that can contribute to your choice: the wedding size, how many guests, if you want your guests to stay at the same venue or close to the venue, the kind of architecture and style of the venue, the view and the location.
Let’s start with two main factors: size of the wedding and general vibe
First of all the size of the wedding: a grand luxurious celebration, an intimate day with close friends, or something in between.
Then you have the vibe of the day and the style of the venue: in Venice you can find spaces that are more modern and luxurious and also, of course, architectural gems that are a thousand years old. You can have intimate gardens on a private island, or gardens on the busy Grand Canal. Rooftops, private discos, baroque ballrooms that can fit hundreds, pools with a view, historical boats – so many options that are impossible to exhaust here.
Ceremony venues and reception venues
When you are choosing a venue for your wedding you can decide if you want a religious ceremony and a separate reception, or if you want everything at the same location. This is usually the case with symbolic ceremonies, but not necessarily (everything can be arranged). The venues I am recommending here are reception venues.
Another important question is: do you want your guests to stay at the wedding venue?
Most wedding venues are luxury hotels, with plenty of space and possibly very close to other hotels, offering a variety of accommodations, but some venues don’t have rooms for your guests. When you have guests staying in different locations you have to consider one more thing to plan: transportation before and after the wedding.
A personal consultation is the best option for those of you who are still deciding
Feel free to contact me and schedule a call to ask more about venues and possible locations for your wedding photographs. This is what my couples value the most about my service: once you book me I can help coordinate with the planners and make a wedding schedule that give space for the creation of beautiful images. I know the city perfectly and I can also suggest the best locations based on the time of day and the vibe you are looking for.
Once you have a big picture idea of what kind of wedding you want to plan and a rough guest count, choosing a wedding venue in Venice gets easier.
Let’s start here and explore the top 15 wedding venues in Venice for destination weddings. Get ready to turn your dream wedding into a reality.

Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding in Venice
Planning a destination wedding in Venice can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. Here are some tips to help ensure that your wedding planning process goes smoothly and that your special day is everything you’ve dreamed of.
First and foremost, it’s important to start planning well in advance. Venice is a popular destination for weddings, and the most sought-after venues can book up quickly, especially during peak wedding season. Aim to start planning at least a year to a year and a half in advance to secure your preferred venue and vendors. This will also give you ample time to navigate any legal requirements and paperwork that may be necessary for a destination wedding in Italy.
Another important consideration is hiring a local wedding planner who is familiar with the city and its wedding industry. A local planner can provide invaluable assistance in coordinating logistics, communicating with vendors, and ensuring that all legal requirements are met. They can also offer insider knowledge and recommendations for venues, caterers, florists, photographers, and other vendors, helping you to create a seamless and unforgettable wedding experience.
When planning your wedding, be sure to consider the logistics of getting around the city. Venice is a pedestrian city with limited vehicle access, so transportation will primarily be by foot or by boat. Plan for your guests’ accommodations to be within walking distance of the wedding venue, or arrange for private water taxis to transport guests to and from the ceremony and reception. Additionally, keep in mind that Venice can be crowded, particularly during peak tourist season, so plan for extra time to navigate through the city and consider scheduling your wedding during the off-peak season for a more intimate and relaxed experience.

Conclusion: Making Your Dream Wedding a Reality in Venice
Venice, with its enchanting canals, historic architecture, and romantic ambiance, provides an unparalleled backdrop for a dream wedding. From opulent palaces and luxurious hotels to quaint gardens and unique venues, the city’s diverse offerings cater to every couple’s vision.
Whether you’re envisioning a grand celebration or an intimate elopement, Venice offers a wealth of options to bring your dream wedding to life. The city’s timeless beauty and rich culture provide the perfect setting for a celebration that reflects your love story.
