Engaged to be married in Italy, this stylish couple planned a shoot in Tuscany that had all the elements of a fashion-forward editorial. With soft golden light, scenic roads, and vintage charm, we chose the magnificent Val d’Orcia as our backdrop—an iconic destination for anyone dreaming of an Engagement Tuscany Vintage Car photoshoot.

A Tuscan Gem: The Historic Town of Pienza
We met in Pienza, located in the province of Siena, Tuscany, in the historical region of Val d’Orcia. Nestled between the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, Pienza is considered the “touchstone of Renaissance urbanism”. In 1996, UNESCO declared the town a World Heritage Site, and in 2004 the entire valley, the Val d’Orcia, was included on the list of UNESCO‘s World Cultural Landscapes.
Once you are there, you can clearly see why: this town is the quintessential Tuscan hamlet, full of life and peaceful at the same time. We happened to be there when the city was getting ready for a local festival and that added a special touch to the day.
As we strolled through the cobblestone streets, the town buzzed with preparations for the festival. It added a joyful energy to the shoot and gave Jeharnah and Jonathan a taste of authentic Tuscan life.

The Perfect Setting: Rolling Hills and Golden Light
The hills surrounding Pienza are the embodiment of Tuscany’s beauty—soft, rolling landscapes lined with cypress trees and dotted with stone farmhouses. This natural canvas is ideal for photography at any time of year, but especially magical in spring and fall when the light is gentle and golden.
We timed our shoot to start in the late afternoon. Every turn revealed a new picturesque spot, from iconic viewpoints to secret corners that felt all our own.

A Vintage Fiat 124 Spider: The Star of the Show
To complete the vintage editorial vibe, Jeharnah and Jonathan rented one of my all-time favorite cars: a Fiat 124 Spider. This classic Italian convertible brings instant romance and retro charm to any session. More than just a prop, it allowed us to travel effortlessly from one scenic spot to another while capturing the feeling of freedom and Italian dolce vita.
Why Choose a Vintage Car for Your Tuscany Engagement Session?
Opting for a vintage car elevates your photoshoot into a cinematic experience. Imagine winding through country roads with the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, and your love beside you in a convertible straight out of a 1960s film.
A car like the Fiat 124 Spider offers an unmistakably Italian aesthetic that blends perfectly with the Tuscan countryside. It is a stylish element for posed portraits and candid moments but it is also perfect for exploring remote scenic spots like the Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta, Podere Belvedere, or the cypress-lined roads of Poggio Covili. The distances can be long and a vintage car can make it all more fun.
There are trusted vintage car rental services in Tuscany that deliver the vehicle directly to your shoot location—whether in Val d’Orcia, Siena, or the Chianti region.
Picture-Perfect Spots Around Val d’Orcia
Whether you’re a photographer or a couple planning your own session, here are some beautiful locations that offer dreamy settings for engagement photos:
- Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta: A tiny chapel nestled among wheat fields. Perfect for dramatic wide-angle shots or romantic close-ups with the car in the background.
- Podere Belvedere: Perhaps the most iconic farmhouse in Tuscany. Best captured at sunrise when the fog kisses the hills.
- Poggio Covili: Known for its picture-perfect, symmetrical line of cypress trees. It’s a stunning location for arrival shots with a vintage car.
- San Quirico d’Orcia: A quaint village with nearby cypress groves arranged in mysterious circular formations—unique and less crowded.
- Bagno Vignoni: A medieval spa town with steamy thermal pools and ancient stonework—a lovely way to end a session with intimate, romantic photos.
Best time of the year for an Engagement Photoshoot in Val d’Orcia, Tuscany
We took this photos in September, at the end of Summer and the colors in the background were so different compared to this other photo sessions take in different times of the year. So if you are planning a shoot, here is some information that can be useful.
One of the most magical things about Val d’Orcia is how dramatically it transforms with each season. Depending on when you visit, the colors and atmosphere of the Tuscan fields can give your engagement photos a completely different mood—each one equally stunning in its own way.
Spring (April–May): Fresh Greens & Wildflowers
Spring brings new life to the Tuscan countryside. The rolling hills are lush and vibrant green, dotted with blooming wildflowers and soft morning mist. It’s the perfect season for romantic, fairy-tale style images full of color and light. Temperatures are mild, and the landscapes feel fresh and full of promise—just like your love story.
Summer (June–August): Golden Fields & Sun-Kissed Tones
As summer unfolds, the green hills shift to golden wheat fields and sunburnt pastures. This is Tuscany’s most iconic look—warm, earthy tones and bright blue skies. It’s ideal for sun-drenched photos with a cinematic feel. Early morning or golden hour shoots are recommended to avoid the midday heat and harsh light.
Autumn (September–October): Warm Hues & Soft Light
Fall in Val d’Orcia is full of rustic charm. The vineyards and forests begin to turn rich shades of amber, orange, and burgundy. The light is soft and golden, making every shot glow. It’s also harvest season, so the countryside is alive with activity, adding an authentic Tuscan energy to your shoot.
Winter (November–March): Moody Tones & Misty Landscapes
While less conventional, winter sessions have a quiet, intimate beauty. The landscape takes on earthy browns and soft greys, and you’ll often find a mystical morning fog blanketing the hills. It’s ideal for couples who want something a little more moody and editorial. Plus, there are fewer tourists, offering privacy and serenity.
No matter the season, Val d’Orcia offers a stunning, ever-changing canvas for your engagement session. Whether you’re drawn to springtime blooms, golden summer hills, autumn warmth, or winter elegance, Tuscany has a season to match your story.

- Plan your route: Map out 3–4 key spots beforehand to maximize your time and light.
- Add personal touches: A small bouquet, champagne toast, or picnic setup adds depth and personality to your story.
- Trust your photographer: An expert photographer knows where the light hits just right and can guide you through secret scenic routes.
