There are days as a photographer that feel like pure magic — where everything aligns: the couple, the light, the location, the emotion. This Amalfi Coast couple photoshoot with Meena and Phil was exactly that. Set against the jaw-dropping beauty of southern Italy’s coastline, it was more than a shoot — it was an experience.

Why the Amalfi Coast Is Perfect for a Couple Photoshoot

Few places in the world are as photogenic and emotionally rich as the Amalfi Coast. With its dramatic cliffs, pastel-colored villages, and turquoise sea, it’s a dream destination for couples. Whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or simply enjoying a romantic getaway, a photoshoot here turns memories into timeless art.

Meet the Couple: A New York City Love Story with Italian Roots

Meena is a renowned wedding planner in New York City, known for creating magical events around the world. Phil is a dedicated NYPD officer with deep Italian roots. This trip wasn’t about a milestone — it was a simple, joyful holiday with their blended family, celebrating time together in a place they both love deeply.

Meena’s love for Italy runs deep, and for Phil, this trip felt like a return to heritage. Their chemistry, humor, and ease made them a joy to photograph — especially with Italy as our canvas.

Starting Point: The Beauty of Sorrento and Nerano

I was based in Sorrento, a town that feels like the perfect Italian postcard. Cliffs, beaches, lemon groves, historic piazzas, and sweeping views of Mount Vesuvius. It’s a perfect hub for any Amalfi Coast couple photoshoot, offering both charm and convenience.

Meena and Phil stayed just outside of Sorrento in a rustic country house surrounded by olive trees and rolling hills. We met in Nerano, a peaceful seaside village, to begin our journey by boat — the ideal way to explore the coast.

Amalfi Coast by Boat: A Dream Photoshoot Route, starting in Positano

From Nerano, we boarded a sleek, luxury boat and cruised past some of the most iconic spots on the Amalfi Coast. It’s the best way to see this stunning region — and the views from the water never disappoint. Positano, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi and the Nerano. This was our route.

No Amalfi Coast couple photoshoot would be complete without a stop in Positano — the crown jewel of the coast and one of the most photogenic villages in all of Italy. As we approached by boat, the view was nothing short of iconic: clusters of peach, coral, and ivory-colored buildings stacked dramatically into the cliffside, spilling down toward the sea like a waterfall of color.

Stepping off the boat and onto the sun-warmed dock, Meena and Phil immediately felt the magic of Positano — it’s the kind of place that pulls you into its rhythm. We strolled along Spiaggia Grande, the town’s main beach, lined with colorful umbrellas and backed by lively cafés and boutiques.

What to See in Positano During a Couple Photoshoot

        • The View from the Sea: The panoramic view of Positano from the water is simply breathtaking — a must-capture angle during a boat shoot. The soft, stacked architecture makes for dreamy backdrops, especially in the warm May sunlight.
        • Spiaggia Grande: This is Positano’s main beach and a perfect location for capturing natural, candid moments. With the village rising up behind, it’s one of the most iconic settings for romantic portraits.
        • The narrow lanes of Via dei Mulini: After a few photos on the beach, we wandered into the heart of Positano. The town’s narrow alleyways — lined with bougainvillea-draped balconies, artisan shops, and hand-painted ceramic storefronts — are perfect for editorial-style images with a spontaneous feel.
        • Santa Maria Assunta Church: We stopped for a moment outside Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, known for its striking majolica-tiled dome. This historic church adds a touch of timeless Italian character to any shoot and sits just steps from the beach.
        • Boutique shopping & local color: Even in a short visit, Positano’s style is unmistakable. Meena couldn’t resist admiring the local linen boutiques, while Phil took in the sea views from a quiet café corner.

        A Place Meant for Lovers

There’s a reason Positano has long been a destination for artists, romantics, and dreamers. Its colors, textures, and natural light create an atmosphere that feels almost cinematic. For Meena and Phil, it was a chance to simply be together in a place that radiates romance — and it shows in every photo.

Lunch with a view at La Tonnarella: a seaside restaurant in Conca dei Marini

Midday, we docked in the picturesque cove of Conca dei Marini and headed to Ristorante La Tonnarella for lunch. This historic seaside restaurant, established in the late 1960s by Umberto Lauritano, was originally a tuna trap storage facility—hence the name “Tonnarella” . Over the decades, it has transformed into a beloved dining spot, attracting both locals and international visitors, including Jacqueline Kennedy.

The ambiance is quintessentially Amalfi Coast—rustic charm meets coastal elegance. The restaurant is adorned with large wooden wine barrels overflowing with fresh aromatic herbs, bunches of bright red tomatoes drying out on a string, and old fishing nets hanging from the ceiling—a warm and inviting atmosphere that provides a family-friendly environment and mouth-watering dining experience.

We dined under a canopy of vines, with the turquoise sea just steps away. The menu featured fresh seafood and house-made pasta, including their signature Spaghetti alla Jacqueline—a creamy zucchini pasta dish originally created for Jacqueline Kennedy during her visits in the 1960s. Every bite was a celebration of local flavors and culinary tradition.

Afternoon stroll in Amalfi: lemons and gelato

After our time in Positano and a beautiful lunch stop in Conca dei Marini, we continued our Amalfi Coast couple photoshoot in the historic town of Amalfi — a place that blends seaside charm with rich cultural heritage. As we passed by, we caught sight of the majestic Hotel Santa Caterina, also known as Santandrea — perched dramatically on the cliffs with cascading terraces and lemon groves. A perfect Amalfi icon.

As we stepped off the boat and into the heart of town, Amalfi immediately felt different. It’s quieter than Positano, more grounded — but just as beautiful. The late afternoon light poured into the narrow streets, casting golden shadows on whitewashed buildings and stone archways. There’s something incredibly intimate about Amalfi, especially in May, when the crowds are lighter and the pace is slower.

The Amalfi Cathedral: A Grand Surprise in the Heart of Town

At the center of it all stands the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea (Duomo di Amalfi) — and it truly takes your breath away. We turned a corner and there it was: bold, majestic, and unlike anything else on the coast.

With its striped Arab-Norman façade, intricately carved bronze doors, and sweeping staircase, the cathedral is one of the most striking landmarks in southern Italy.

We spent some time exploring the piazza in front of the cathedral, watching local life unfold — children playing in the fountain, nonnas chatting on benches, shopkeepers arranging lemons and handmade ceramics in their windows. Every detail felt authentic and timeless.

Wandering the Hidden Alleys of Amalfi

From there, we let ourselves get a little lost in Amalfi’s narrow backstreets, where the real magic happens. Ivy-covered walls, hand-painted tile street signs, and the distant smell of fresh pastries from tucked-away bakeries gave us that perfectly imperfect backdrop — ideal for capturing unposed, real moments between Meena and Phil.

As the light softened into golden hour, the mood in town shifted to something even more peaceful. Locals came out for their evening walks, and the town glowed with that unmistakable Mediterranean warmth.

A Perfect Ending: Dinner at Lo Scoglio in Nerano

As the golden hour faded into twilight, we wrapped our shoot in the most unforgettable way: dinner at the famous Lo Scoglio da Tommaso, one of the most celebrated restaurants in Nerano — and a featured spot in Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy series. Known for its simplicity, elegance, and unbelievably fresh ingredients (much of it grown on their own land), Lo Scoglio is a culinary destination in its own right.

Over plates of their signature zucchini pasta and wine with a view, we toasted to an incredible day. It was the perfect close to a photoshoot that felt less like work, and more like a beautiful day spent with kind, inspiring people in one of the most breathtaking places on earth.
