Lake Como honeymoon photos in Bellagio Villa Melzi d’Eril
Lake Como for your honeymoon photos? Yes please! When a couple inquires for honeymoon photos in Italy I am so glad to hear Lake Como is their first option. This stunning lake overlooking the Alps, 25 miles north of Milan, has much to offer couples looking for a true taste of Italy, with historic villas, breathtaking views and incredible cuisine.
If sipping an aperitif on a sunny terrace overlooking the water sounds like heaven, Lake Como could be the perfect honeymoon destination for you. Lake Como really is the quintessential picture perfect location for a romantic newlywed get-away. And Bellagio, sitting at the center of the land mass that divides Lake Como in two, is so iconic that Las Vegas borrowed its name for a world famous resort and casino ( at the center of the movie Ocean’s Eleven).
A quaint town on the lake called Bellagio
The city center occupies the tip of the promontory, while other districts are scattered along the lake shores and up the slopes of the hills. Bellagio is famous worldwide for its beautiful villas overlooking the water. The tiny streets of Bellagio are so pretty that a simple walk is worth the visit. The old town center has one main road, which takes you to the tip of the village past dozens of boutiques where you can find local food, leather goods, clothing, perfumes, and much more.
Best things to see in Bellagio: the old town, the village of Pescallo and Villa Melzi d’Eril
Besides the old town of Bellagio, the picturesque village of Pescallo is absolutely worth the visit. Located southeast of the Bellagio promontory, overlooking the Lecco branch of Lake Como, Pescallo is an ancient little hamlet nestled between the green and the lake. The perfect place for a walk in peace, water sports and a romantic marriage proposal (just an example!).
Once known as a fishing village, today Pescallo is a real gem with a small harbor where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake.
The hamlet houses and narrow alleys that connect you to the center of Bellagio with a short walk through a stairway that crosses the promontory.
Romantic photoshoot at Villa Melzi d’Eril for a belated honeymoon in Lake Como
Why choose Villa Melzi d’Eril for a couple photoshoot
In Lake Como you are definitely spoiled with choice when it comes to finding a location for your photoshoot. When Amanda and Joseph contacted me they told me they were going to stay in Bellagio. I offered a few options and they loved the idea of adding a villa to their shoot. The chosen one was Villa Melzi, just a few minutes from the center of the town.
Villa Melzi d’Eril was built between 1808 and 1810. In the garden, under the trees, along the shore and at the intersections of the paths, are Egyptian sculptures and Roman statues which add to the romantic atmosphere of the garden. There is a Japanese pond with water lilies, surrounded by maple and cedar trees. In April and May, you can admire the blooming azaleas and rhododendrons.
The perfect Italian honeymoon
Amanda and Joseph’s honeymoon was delayed by Covid but also by his work in the Army. When they finally managed to book the trip, they chose the best of Italy for their trip: Rome, Florence, Lake Como. Then they also had great luck with everyday sunshine and a magical breeze making the 30°C more bearable. We explored the villa, then walked around the town and capture everything that makes this place magical, with the sun slowly setting behind the mountains.
